So for my first day I go to the shop closest to me, makes sense right? About 15 minutes walk away, I have been here so many times but not once have I gone in and bought Custard Creams. As soon as I arrive I head towards the biscuit aisle to find a 300g pack at a competitive price of 59p (considering Tesco's recent price upgrade). As a general rule I am not allowed to have anything with the biscuits, so I had to swiftly drink the milk I bought before I opened the pack, picked out a biscuit and put it in my mouth.
At first I thought "where is the flavour?!" they seemed very bland until a few seconds when I got a faint taste of the "Cream" part of the biscuit. In addition to that after a few biscuits I found myself chewing more and more and my mouth constantly drying up. The biscuit part of the confectionery product just felt like dust in your mouth after a few bites, which made eating them consecutively pretty difficult. I was so disappointed with the pack that I ended up giving at least 5 biscuits to my dog. I expected better from the Co-Op.
Biscuit: 2/10
Cream: 4/10
Price: 7/10
Overall: 13/30
Since joining University last September, I have developed a somewhat unhealthy relationship with Custard Creams. My obsession reached the point where I would wake up in the morning wondering where my next biscuit would come from. But what hit me was not that I am addicted to Custard Creams, not that I was slowly gaining weight and not even that my chances of a heart attack were gradually increasing, but actually the fact I had only ever tried Tesco's own brand Custard Creams!!! There are a whole world of the creamy biscuit out there and I have only ever tried one version! From that day on I decided that I would travel around the UK finding, eating and reviewing all the different Custard Creams. So here I am, right at the start. Wish me well!
NOTE: For any people hoping for a review of Waitrose's Custard Creams, I am afraid I will not be reviewing them as I have vowed never to buy anything from there ever again. This is due to Waitrose being a god awful, over-priced, atmosphere lacking, oddly organised, badly presented, smelly, shed of a shop and a disgrace to proper supermarkets, such as Sainsbury's.
